So for the last two weeks I’ve been doing only cardio and calisthenics. Time to build strength and put on some muscle. I got my school card renewed so I can hit the gym. With my post yesterday, I’ve switched to mornings and I’ve never felt more motivated to get jacked and in shape. I’ve been cruising /r/weightroom and came across a starter program known as Stronglifts 5×5.

And I just completed day 1 this morning.

The routine is short and simple. You start very light. And every workout you increase by 5 pounds on each exercise. You start with workout A and then workout B two days later. Every two days just switch A and B, increasing each exercise by 5 pounds from the time before. A and B both have squats.

Workout A:

  1. Bench Press – 45 pounds. 5 sets of 5 reps
  2. Squats – 45 pounds. 5 sets of 5 reps
  3. Barbell Row – 65 pounds. 5 sets of reps

Workout B:

  1. Squats – 50 pounds. 5 sets of 5 reps
  2. Overhead press – 45 pounds. 5 sets of reps
  3. Deadlift – 90 pounds. 1 set of 5 reps.

Here’s how I’m getting started and keeping track.

It’s nice and short…Only 25-30 minutes so far (it starts off easy). So I’m running for 30 minutes after that, but my friends say I’ll be too dead to run as the weight increases.

I want to find a workout buddy to keep motivated as well so we’ll see what happens on that.
